NewerTech on Thursday announced the release of its MaxPower G4 7447 Single Processor Upgrade, a CPU upgrade card aimed at Power Mac G4s whose users want to boost their machine’s CPU performance to 1.6GHz. It costs $249.

The processor upgrade utilizes a FreeScale MPC7447A microprocessor. It’s compatible with Power Mac G4 AGP Graphics (Sawtooth), Gigabit, Ethernet, Digital Audio, and Quicksilver models. It works with Mac OS 9.2.2 or Mac OS X v10.3.5 or later.

The 1.6GHz single processor card joins other MAXPower single and dual-processor cards, which run from $249 to $599 depending on speed and configuration.
