If you have some extra SATA drives laying around and want to make a nice external drive for your desktop or notebook computer NewerTech has what you need. A product called USB 2.0 Universal Drive Adapter includes all you need to take a drive originally meant to be an internal SATA drive and turn it into an external USB drive. What you get is an adapter that takes the SATA connector and transforms it to an USB 2.0 connector. You also get the power supply needed to run the drive externally. Naturally, the SATA drive runs much slower using the USB adapter than it will when connected directly but Big Bruin found it works the product works well. It is also worth pointing out that most external drives currently on the market, like the ones from Maxtor and Seagate, use SATA drives inside the external enclosure. |
