NuPower ViDEO+ |
If you're anything like me (and for the most part let's hope not) you spend about 88% of your day fumbling with your iPod. Long car trips in the back of your mom's Ford Tempo are ten-times more "blissed-out" when your headphone volume is loud enough to cancel out her Diana Krall weep-a-thons. But the luxury of your 40GB of freedom doesn't last forever: After countless revolutions of the click-wheel, coupled with A.D.D. shuffling habits, the "Apple of your eye and ear" will have depleted its precious battery power--then it's back to the wasteland of Adult-Alternative for you. Newer Technology hopes to fix your battery-life woes with their new product, NuPower Video+, a rechargeable battery pack and docking station for the iPod Video. Your iPod fits securely into the docking station like the Apple model, just a bit heftier. Luckily that extra heft has a purpose, increasing your player's hour-power from a paltry 8-10 to a music/movie marathon of up to 16 hours (video) or 80 hours (audio). Like most products of it's kind, the NuPower Video+ boast is off the mark--they must gauge their hour-power by disabling any extra features that may deplete your iPod's power more rapidly, like gapless songs and/or different equalizer presets. No matter, as the extra hours, exact or not, are still worth the NuPower Video+ cost of $49.99. I personally got around 12-14 hours worth of battery life when watching videos; around 70 for music. So, why purchase a peripheral that only boosts your playback, you ask? I thought the same thing when trying it out...until I released its main purpose. The NuPower Video+, being rechargeable, is able to recharge your iPod Video up to three times, as long as you've recharged its Lithium battery pack beforehand. If you're jamming out to the latest Avril Lavigne track on a long bus trip that's crucial, and worth the price of admission on its own. Whether you're travel-savvy, or just never, ever want your iPod Video's battery to flash red, the NuPower Video+ is an exceptional way to assist you in either situation.
