While most tough iPhone cases are so big and bulky they look like something the Incredible Hulk would use, the NuGuard KX case manages to deliver amazing levels of protection while still looking and feeling like an 'average' case.

The semi-rigid case is about 4mm thick, with a slightly rubberised plastic outer shell and an interior that feels like soft neoprene. It comes in eight colours ranging from purple (Rose) to a military green (Nubar Forest).

Unlike most of its competition, the case is made in one piece and is flexible enough to easily slip over your iPhone. We reviewed the 4/4S model, which felt nice in the hand and didn't add too much bulk. A 2mm lip protects your screen if you place your iPhone face-down. Cut-outs give you full access to the phone's ports and camera, while sealed buttons sit over the On/ Off and Volume buttons.

We're too chicken to test tough cases by doing Jackass-style stunts with our iPhones, but we dropped an iPhone 4S from a normal standing position on to a variety of surfaces with no damage at all. The videos the NewerTech crew have posted on their website speak for themselves.

Head to www.newertech.com/kx and you'll see KX-encased phones being put through a variety of drop tests. The case has been very well-received around the world, and was named Best in Show by a few media outlets at this year's CES.

Bottom line.

MacWorld 5 of 5 Rating

Backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee and a full-replacement lifetime guarantee, the NewerTech NuGuard KX is the goods. Because it combines tough protection with a slim profile it comes highly recommended. However, bear in mind that it isn't waterproof and dustproof.
