Newer Technology on Wednesday announced its new MAXPower G4/7448 single and dual processor upgrades. The upgrades, which replace the existing processors on Power Mac G4 systems, start at $399. The processors are 100 percent compatible with existing hardware, application software, Mac OS 9.2.2 and Mac OS X v10.3.5 or later, according to Newer, and require no operating system modifications to be recognized. The upgrades work with existing Power Mac G4 “Sawtooth,” “Gigabit Ethernet,” “Digital Audio” or “QuickSilver” models, and incorporate 1MB of on-chip Level 2 cache. The new MAXPower G4/7448 processor upgrades are available in four configurations: 1.8GHz single, 2.0GHz single, 1.7-1.73GHz Dual and 1.8GHz Dual, for $399, $449, $599 and $699 respectively.
