Newer Technology’s miniStack is an external FireWire/USB 2.0 designed to fit underneath a Mac mini. The company now offers an “add your own hard drive” version bundled with software for $84.95. The miniStack measures 6.5 x 6.5 x 1.5 inches and adds two FireWire 400 ports and three USB ports. While it’s designed to suit the Mac mini it’s compatible with other Macs, as well. Newer sells the system in capacities from 80 to 750GB, as well as a “0GB” kit in which you can install your own 3.5-inch hard disk drive. That system is $74.95, but Newer is now optionally offering the 0GB drive bundled with Intech HD Speedtools and EMC Retrospect backup software for $84.95. The kit also comes with FireWire and USB 2.0 connecting cables.
