Networking & Storage News from August 2007 Issue Guardian Maximus Guardian Maximus is an external storage device that works with any computer. It comes in three versions, with either a FireWire 400, FireWire 800, or USB 2.0 port. The units have transfer rates of 400, 800, and 480 MBs per second. The devices guard against data loss by writing the same information, in realtime, to two separate drives, creating for a "mirrored" copy. In the event of a hard drive failure, users are protected because the files are stored in multiple locations to insure no data loss. They provide "live activity" backup and data redundancy via RAID hardware mirroring. A lightemitting diode screen displays drive access and status information. The machines are available in five storage configurations, ranging from 250 GB to 1 TB, the company says. Every unithas 7,200 rpm. From Illinois' Newer Technology Inc. (www.newertech.com). |
