Other World Computing and Newer Technology Inc. of Woodstock made a splash at the Macworld Conference & Expo conducted Monday through Friday in San Francisco. According to the expo's Web site at www.macworldexpo.com, the event "is a must-attend staple" for Macintosh enthusiasts. The conference features programs, networking, information and demonstrations on leading technologies. During the show, Other World Computing introduced an enhanced 800 FireWire-equipped version of the Mercury On-The-Go, a small, lightweight, portable-storage drive, known as the On-The-Go pro series 800/400+USB2. The On-The-Go pro series features a storage capacity of up to 160 gigabytes and operates at 5,400 or 7,200 revolutions per minute, a statement said. Newer Technology debuted the upgraded miniStack v2, designed to increase drive capacity by 80 to 500 gigabytes and add multiple FireWire and universal serial bus (USB) port options. The miniStack v2 is compatible with the Mac mini, a compact desktop computer, in addition to any Apple computer or PC with FireWire or USB ports, a statement said. In late December, the company also announced that the miniStack was named Accessory of the Year by 123Macmini, an online community for Mac mini users. "At [Newer Technology] our goal is to provide the absolute best solutions for today's technology users at the very best prices possible," company President Larry O'Connor said in a statement. "When we hear actual users use terms like 'perfect' and 'can't do without it' about a product like the miniStack, that's an amazing reward." In addition, the product received MacAddict's Editors Choice and a Macworld Top Product accolades in 2005. For details about Mercury On-The-Go, visit www.macsales.com/otg. Additional information about the miniStack can be found at www.newertech.com/ministack. Other World Computing offers hardware products and support to Mac users, in addition to operating www.macsales.com. Newer Technology Inc. develops performance upgrades for PowerBooks, desktop Macs, iMacs and MacOS compatibles.
